HD Radio™ Technology Continues to Help Local Radio Deliver New Programming and Listeners

Over 4.7 million people listened to an HD2, HD3 or HD4 channel in an average week, according to the latest Fall 2013 Nielsen Audio Nationwide audience estimates. Also, during that same period, cumulative audience, or Cume,  (the total number of unique listeners) grew over 256%.

HD Radio™ Technology has been widely embraced by the best performing radio stations in the country

BIA/Kelsey releases latest report, summarizing the Top 10 billing radio stations in the country. iBiquity adds that all 10 are broadcasting digitally.

WTOP, the Washington, D.C. all-news station, took the top spot total U.S. radio billings for the fourth consecutive year, with $64-million dollars earned.

As usual, my time at this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show a few weeks back got me thinking hard about what lies ahead for broadcast radio. I’m excited by it all and inspired to share a few thoughts. Folks go to CES to see the future and plan for it, and there was much to see in Vegas that will impact the radio industry. I was happy to spend time at the Show with more broadcasters than I have in previous years. It’s essential for industry leaders to see firsthand the incredible breadth and power of new consumer information and entertainment technologies, and feel the rapid pace and disruptive potential of these innovations. Products shown at CES have and will continue to change the way radio is used by consumers and, by definition, how it does business going forward.

HD Radio™ Technology Standard on 2015 Legacy

Subaru announced at the 2014 Chicago Auto Show that the 2015 Legacy will offer HD Radio Technology as a standard feature.  The Legacy will be the third Subaru vehicle to offer HD Radio technology as a standard feature along with the BRZ and WRX.  The 2015 Subaru Legacy is expected to arrive at dealers during the summer of 2014.

The following HD Radio features will be available; Digital Sound, Program Info, HD2/HD3, iTunes® Tagging, Bookmark, and Artist Experience®.

HD Radio™ Technology Standard on the 2015 Hyundai Genesis

At the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Hyundai unveiled the all-new Hyundai Genesis that will come standard with HD Radio Technology.  The Genesis becomes the fourth Hyundai vehicle to include HD Radio Technology as a standard feature along with the Azera, Equus, and Santa Fe.  The 2015 Genesis will include the latest HD Radio audio feature, Artist Experience®, allowing listeners the ability to view artist cover art and station logos on their display.
