HD Digital Radio "Discovers" SXSW

For two decades, SXSW in Austin, Texas has been the annual “it” spot where record company officials, music media executives, artists and consumers discover the hottest new music and technology. At this year’s event, they’ll find out why HD radio is turning into the must-have consumer entertainment option, with an explosion of new formats and programming, crystal-clear digital sound and NO subscription fees.

On Wednesday, March 14th, the HD Digital Radio Alliance will be hosting a “Discover It! SXSW Day” showcase during SXSW, consisting of live artist performances, three HD radio listening stations for product sampling and HD radio giveaways (up to 5 receivers an hour!) to help SXSW’s attendees and Austin music fans tune in to this exciting new listening option. On two simultaneous stages, the event will feature the indie sounds of The Silos, The Sights, Quincy Coleman and much more. Tex-Mex food and open bar beverages will also be available.

If you can make it to the event, here are the coordinates:

HD Radio is on track to be the fastest emerging consumer technology ever – more than 1,100 stations are currently broadcasting in HD and over 600 offer HD2 multicast programming with exciting new formats and content. The best part is that these HD2 side channels are giving unsigned and small label artists the chance to get heard. Retail availability has exploded with giant retailers like Wal-Mart, Circuit City and Radio Shack carrying recievers and the available models keep on multiplying. Visitors to SXSW will be able to experience local HD2 formats that include KGSR-FM 107.1-2’s Deep Rock Tracks, KROX-FM 101.5-2’s Active Rock and KXBT-FM 104.3-2’s Urban AC.
